Barnes Opening, Fool's mate

[edit | edit source]

2. g4??

[edit | edit source]

This move is a blunder (as can be seen by the ??), as it allows Black to immediately checkmate with 2...Qh4#. This is known as Fool's Mate. It is the fastest possible checkmate in a chess game.

[edit | edit source]

2...Qh4# 34%. 2...d5 24%. 2...Nc6 15%. 2...Bc5 8%. All other moves ~15%.
