French Defence: Advance Variation
[edit | edit source]Here Black has built up quite some pressure on White's d4-pawn, luckily there are still enough defenders.
White has several options. They can:
- Prepare a gambit by playing 6.Bd3.
- Develop their pieces, but without the intention of sacrificing a pawn (6.Be2)
- Prepare an expansion on the queenside (6.a3).
