French Defence, Winawer Variation, Alekhine Gambit

[edit | edit source]

One of White's central ideas in this gambit variation is obtaining Black's 'good' bishop - without the necessity of paying the price of doubled pawns on c2/c3.
Here White typically asks Black, what they intend to do with their 'good' bishop on b4: 5.a3.
