Petrov's Defence: Cochrane Gambit
[edit | edit source]White attacks a bit too early. Black has an effective way to block the attack: 5...d5 (White cannot recapture the pawn without dropping a part of his offensive potential).
Other correct moves (but probably less effective) are 5...Ke8 and 5...Be6. In these lines, White can weaken Black position even more.
