[edit | edit source]White takes the knight. This pins White's knight to their queen, so Black can recover the piece for the cost of the d-pawn.
5...d6 6. d4 dxe5 7. dxe5 is the continuation, offering non-trivial practical chances and partial compensation for the pawn. In fact, White's best line is then to give the pawn back, since they cannot hold onto it without getting a worse position and there are several traps for greedy players.
