The main idea of the fried liver attack Nxf7 will be immediately compensated for after 5... Kxf7 6. exd5, in a trade of knights. White could have won more material by playing patiently and keeping the the threat on the f-pawn (see 5. d4), but a comfortable position up a pawn and with Black unable to castle can now be played.
