Hungarian Defence

[edit | edit source]

This defence is seldom seen, but has a reputation of being solid. It slowly develops the king's bishop so that it looks out on two diagonals. Its aim is to defend against an eventual queen exchange and against a pawn storm on the king side.

White's best choice is to attack the center with 4. d4. 4. O-O is also an option, despite being a bit passive.
