[edit | edit source]White snap off Black's knight, thinking if 3...bxa6? they have ruined Black's pawn structure with doubled, isolated pawns on the a-file.
However, because Black has already opened up their queen with c6, they have the reply 3...Qa5+ 4. Nc3 Qxa6, and Black picks up the bishop pair without spoiling their pawns.
