[edit | edit source]This opening has some very interesting ideas. With this move White prepares to fianchetto the dark squared bishop to b2 but depending on what Black plays next White's ideas aren't really clear.
Black can continue with the usual Taimanov or Kan setup and Black can also play the 4...d5 pawn break, but the most played move in the chess database right now is 4...b6.
