A trendy continuation, leading to structures resembling the Giuoco Pianissimo or the Ruy Lopez. White usually develops with d2-d3, c2-c3, O-O, Re1, and plays a2-a4 or Bb3 to prevent the bishop from being exchanged off, and prepares Nbd2-Nf1-Ng3 manoeuvres.
