Black can play 2...Bb7, consistent with having moved their b-pawn, and pressure White's centre. Now or at some point later they may wish to play ...a6, kicking the bishop, and otherwise play in the manner of an Owen's defence or a Queen's Indian, with ...e6, ...Bb4, ...Nf6, and ...O-O, aiming for ...d5 to break in the centre.
