Bogo-Catalan Defense
[edit | edit source]Black plays Bb4+, the same move as the Bogo-Indian Defense, and White must block the check. If White plays Nc3, the opening transposes into a Nimzo-Indian Defense, Romanishin Variation. The Bogo-Catalan Defense is the same move order as the Bogo-Indian, but against the Catalan move of 3. g3 instead of 3. Nf3.
Much like the Bogo-Indian, the Bogo-Catalan's mainlines are infamous for leading to several draws. However, unlike the regular Bogo-Indian, the Bogo-Catalan Defense has a couple of interesting sidelines which lead to imbalanced, fighting games against the Catalan Opening.
