[edit | edit source]In a similar fashion to the Englund Gambit, Black sacrifices their e-pawn in the hopes of playing a trap after the pawn is taken, but is considered an unsound move in perfect play. Therefore, it is a rare occurrence in a real tournament game, but is not uncommon in amateur levels of play.
3. dxe5 accepts the gambit, and capitalizes on Black's dubious move, while gaining a tempo by attacking the knight on f6.
