White breaks open the centre with a pawn sacrifice.

3...dxe4 is a transposition into the Blackmar-Diemer gambit.

3. Nxe4 Nxe4 4. dxe4 is the alternative way to accept the gambit.

2...e6 transposes into the classical French.

History

Hübsch or Huebsch was a chess amateur who surprised Savielly Tartakower with this gambit in 1922. Emil Diemer used this opening to transpose into his favourite Blackmar-Diemer gambit from the Indian defence.[1]
