[edit | edit source]1.c4 e6 is the Agincourt Defence (named for the Battle of Agincourt, fought between the English and the French). Black fights for control of d5 and plans to put a pawn there. Common replies to this opening are 2.Nf3, 2.Nc3, and 2.g3.
